MISSION and GOALS
The mission of the Lifespan Institute is to offer a forum in which the
experience of older women of diverse backgrounds is heard and valued.
Our goals are:
- To create and provide discussion and peer support groups
- To expand social connections for older women
- To collect stories about key points in our lives that honor our
experience
PROGRAMS and PROJECTS
Eldercare Support Group
This group provides an opportunity for women who are responsible for the
care of elderly parents, relatives and friends to share their experiences
and consult with each other about their roles. In the process, we learn
about many aspects of eldercare and gather ideas that will assist us in
our own aging process.
Women Turning 60
This discussion group explores the experience of being 60 in today's
world. Topics include how much "younger" we are at 60 in comparison
with years past, the influence of the women's movement on our lives,
and our plans and goals for this new decade of our lives.
Changing the Rules
This is a research project on the influence of the women's movement
on the lives of this age cohort (women who are 55 to 64 in 2001).
I am collecting stories from women who graduated from college in the
late 1950s and in the 1960s about our job experience after graduation.
What did we do? How did we get the job? As college graduates, were we
offered management training positions? What was it like then compared
to now?
